چکیده

We study the problem of planning a tour for an energy-limited Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) to visit a set of sites in the least amount of time. We envision scenarios where the UAV can be recharged along the way either by landing on stationary recharging stations or on an Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGV) acting as a mobile recharging station. This leads to a new variant of the Traveling Salesperson Problem (TSP) with mobile recharging stations. We present an algorithm to find the optimal tours to determine not only the order in which to visit the sites but also when and where to land on the charging stations to recharge. Our algorithm plans tours for the UGV as well as determines best locations to place stationary charging stations. While the problem we study is NP-Hard, we present a practical solution using Generalized TSP that finds the optimal solution (albeit in possibly exponential worst-case running time). Our simulation results show that the running time is acceptable for reasonably sized instances in practice. We also show how to modify our algorithms to plan for package delivery with UAVs using UGVs as mobile warehouses.

A New Routing Algorithm for Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks based on Glowworm Swarm Optimization Algorithm

Vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) are a particular type of Mobile ad hoc networks (MANET) in which the vehicles are considered as nodes. Due to rapid topology changing and frequent disconnection makes it difficult to design an efficient routing protocol for routing data among vehicles. In this paper, a new routing protocol based on glowworm swarm optimization algorithm is provided. Using the g...

Nonlinear Landing Control for Quadrotor UAVs

Quadrotor UAVs are one of the most preferred type of small unmanned aerial vehicles because of the very simple mechanical construction and propulsion principle. However, the nonlinear dynamic behavior requires a more advanced stabilizing control and guidance of these vehicles. In addition, the small payload reduces the amount of batteries that can be carried and thus also limits the operating r...

The Electric Vehicle-Routing Problem with Time Windows and Recharging Stations

Driven by new laws and regulations concerning the emission of greenhouse gases, carriers are starting to use battery electric vehicles (BEVs) for last-mile deliveries. The limited battery capacities of BEVs necessitate visits to recharging stations during delivery tours of industry-typical length, which have to be considered in the route planning in order to avoid inefficient vehicle routes wit...
